Marc Boutgès' paintings investigate human desires and drives and explore our current visual landscape.
His current paintings merge digital imagery and expressionistic painting. The works include mediums and materials that range from oil paint, duct tape, collage, enamel spray paint, paint pens, silk-screen, black plastic vinyl, and plastic mirrored squares. The imagery in his work is derived from computer generated imagery, video games, graphic and industrial design, and art historical references.
All of his works are first created digitally. This is done either by manipulating imagery digitally or creating imagery by utilizing different digital tool sets. He then creates digital sketches of each painting and utilizes different printing processes to transfer the imagery to the final paintings.
His approach to painting creates a visual world that opens a virtual and an internal space, that is both personal and impersonal, expressive of our current visual landscape, and teeters between creative and destructive worlds.
His previous work explores the creative and destructive aspects of humanity and explores notions of progress and transformation.
